David CroftDavid Croft OBE (born David John Sharland) was born on 7th September 1922 in Dorset. Not much is known about his personal life. However his parents are Reginald Sharland and Annie Croft who were big stars in musicals. Whilst growing up he attended a Prep School finally moving to Rugby School. He finished Rugby School in 1938.



He married a lady named Anne with whom he has seven children with. Nicholas, Penelope, Jane, Rebecca, John, Richard and Timothy.



Croft holds several awards for his work. One of which was his OBE for services to TV. In 1995 the BBC tribute showThis is Your Lifeacknowledged his achievments. Croft has numerous TV writing credits. Some of which include Dad's Army, The Eggheads and Sunshine Street. His most memorable to date is Are You Being Served? He co-wrote 68 out of 69 episodes of the show. The show was a huge success but stopped abruptly on the 1 April 1985.


Croft kept producing, directing shows and writing alongside his long term writing partner Jeremy Lloyd. He is now retired.
