Frank ThorntonFrank Thornton Ball was born in 1921 in Dulwhich, London. His interest in acting started at an early age but was side-tracked because his father did not consider it as a proper job. So he got a job working in insurance. Whilst there he attended evening classes at London School of Dramatic Art. He was soon however asked to joined their day classes. Due to the Second World War Frank and his fellow students had to be evacuated which his first job was in Ireland. Touring with four plays. In 1945 on 5th June he married actress Beryl Evans in London and had one child. He was in the Royal Air Force during the war and after that he joined a rep company. In 1954 he made a film called Radio Cab Murder and that was his first ever credit.


Naturally as everyone knows he was best known for his role as Captain Peacock. He appeared in every single episode that was written and then reprised his role in Grace and Favour. He has also been in Last of the Summer Wine playing the role of Herbert Truly and has done several guest roles in other shows.


Frank is now 88.
