John InmanJohn Inman was born 28th June 1935 in Preston, Lancashire.

When he was 13 he appeared at the South Pier in Blackpool where he was currently living at the time. He then continued with performing making several TV appearences, stage shows, and carbaret productions. He often appeared in London West End shows.

He made his West End debut in Ann Veronica at Cambridge Theatre. He followed this up as Lord Fancourt Babberley in Charley's Aunt.

His break came when he was asked by David Croft to appear in a new TV sitcom Are You Being Served? He played the role of Mr Humphries. The show ran for just over 10 years and he became famous nationwide for his camp portrayal of the salesman. During this he also coined the famous catchphrase "I'm free". He played Mr Humphries in all 69 episodes.

Several years after AYBS? had come of the air he reprised his role of Mr Humphries in the short lived sitcom of Grace and Favour.

John was a regular Panto Dame right up until 2004 when he had to pull out after being diagnosed with Hepititus A. He never worked again.

2005 saw the passing of same sex relationships and the following week he entered a cival partnership with his partner of 33 years Ron Lynch.

Sadly John passed away on 8th March 2007.
